Beginner Snorkelling with the Ocean Conservation Trust
Take your first step (or splash!) into snorkelling! Our beginner snorkelling sessions take place at Firestone Bay- a pebble beach next to Royal William Yard. We’ll start by getting you suited and booted with snorkel equipment- wetsuits, fins and a mask & snorkel. We’ll build up your confidence in the water by trying your hand at snorkelling in Firestone’s tidal pool first. Here, you can get comfortable using the equipment whilst getting to grips with the sensation, temperature (and taste!) of snorkelling in seawater without having to navigate Ocean currents and habitats.
Once everyone is feeling assured and satisfied with their snorkel skills, we’ll hop over the tidal pool wall and out into the sea! Firestone Bay has some beautiful seagrass meadows and kelp forests, home to spider crabs, pollack, sticklebacks and even sea bass!
Explore our amazing local shores with the help of our Ocean Discovery Rangers. Our Rangers are all BSAC or PADI certified snorkel instructors, who are also marine biologists! This means you can feel both safe and educated in the sea!
Age 8+ (ages 8-11 need to be accompanied by a paying adult in the water on a two to one ratio). Adults new to snorkelling are welcome to join
Ages 12-16 need to have an adult present at the sessions but not in the water.
