Sensory Friendly Snorkelling with the Ocean Conservation Trust

Whilst all Ocean Conservation Trust activities take accessibility into account, these sessions are specifically designed to ensure those with  sensory processing issues are comfortable whilst snorkelling. These sessions take place at Mount Batten Bay. Our accessible snorkel sessions have a reduced capacity to allow for a closer level of support from our Ocean Discovery Rangers. The session takes on a more relaxed schedule, allowing more time for participants to change into snorkel gear, and to make their way down to the beach. If a participant does not want to use a certain piece of equipment, this is absolutely fine!

We’ll start in some of Mount Batten's rockpools, where participants can get used to the temperature, smell and even taste of the sea without having to worry about the additional elements of the Ocean currents and habitats e.g. rocks, seaweed. When comfortable, you can move out over the rockpools and into the sea, where you can swim over seagrass meadows and kelp forests.

Your session will be led by our Ocean Discovery Rangers. The group size for these sessions is reduced, allowed for a smaller instructor to snorkeller ratio. Our Rangers are all BSAC or PADI certified snorkel instructors, who are also marine biologists! This means you can feel both safe and educated in the sea!

Age 8+ (ages 8-11 need to be accompanied by a paying adult in the water on a two to one ratio),

Ages 12-16 need to have an adult present at the sessions but not in the water.
